Paul Reynolds, Board Member and dear friend of Patrick, spoke to the group about NUT Carcinoma awareness and the importance of this community making a difference. The event gathered a little over 200 people on the beach to walk and swim in honor of Patrick’s life.

The group of participants swam from 34th street to the Newport Pier and back (1.2 miles) for the foundation and its mission. A little context for why they are open water swimming…Patrick was a collegiate water polo athlete and, after graduating from UCLA, became passionate about open water swimming. During COVID, Patrick swam this exact swim with some friends to get their workouts in. Next thing you know, Patrick trained and swam the Catalina Channel and English Channel. This swim was pivotal for his training sessions during that time.

This will be an annual event from the Patrick Woepse Foundation. For this year’s event, there were brochures on NUT Carcinoma that outlined research goals and plans for the future so donors and supporters can understand the mission. After the swim, there was also a fundraising opportunity at a local bar to raise further funds for NUT Carcinoma.

In the years to come, they are hoping to host a donor dinner the night before and fly in a researcher or advocate to speak.

We would love for you all to be a part of it next year!
